Michael Hussar is an oil painter from Southern California who does some pretty disturbing contemporary work. Dark, but yet in a way, playful. He uses a lot of whites, reds, blacks, and yellows.

“Only Have Eyes For You” Painting Part 2

Done for the night. Most of the face is finished.

I’m wondering…should the hair stay a flat color to make it more illustration-y or should I add shadows? What do you think?

“Only Have Eyes For You” Painting Part 1

I started painting and wanted to show the difference between the flat color and shadows/highlights between the two faces that I have so far. Makes a big difference, right? I’m liking how this is turning out so far.

“Only Have Eyes For You” Sketch

January 22, 2012 § Leave a comment

I started this sketch today for a Valentine’s Day show I’ll be participating in next month. They wanted sensual, so I might need to do something else. But as of now, I’ve never tried something so symmetrical before and think it’s kinda cool. It was definitely fun to draw.

Here’s the main line work. More details and of course color will be added later. Hopefully I can get an update posted later today on it’s progress.

“Still Alive” Finished Painting (Angel Sketch Part 4)

Sorry it’s been such a long hiatus again. Seems to happen right before shows.

I’m leaving for the Surf Expo tomorrow night for five days in Orlando. It’s been a rush to get this painting done. Can’t say I’m very happy with it tho. It’s not bad, just not what I had in my mind. It ended up too dark with all the black outlining. Oh well. At least it was a feat getting something this big done (30×40 inches)! Definitely learned a lesson. I am NOT patient enough for these sized paintings haha. At least not as detailed line-work oriented as this one was for the size.

The major inspiration for this work (mostly giving me inspiration to actually sit long enough to work on it! haha) was this song. It makes me feel like flying (hence the angel and butterflies theme). Must have listened to it at least 3 or 400 times. 0_0
